Canadian Nurses Association Accessibility Policy

The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) is committed to providing barrier-free access for persons with disabilities. This policy describes how CNA accommodates persons with disabilities regarding barrier-free services, including its programs, goods and services.

Assistive devices

CNA is committed to ensuring that its employees are familiar with various assistive devices that may be used by persons with disabilities while accessing our programs, goods and services.

Communication

CNA is committed to communicating with persons with disabilities in ways that take into account their disability.

Service animals

CNA welcomes onto its premises service animals upon whom persons with disabilities rely in their daily living.

Support persons

CNA welcomes support persons upon whom persons with disabilities rely in their daily living. CNA will advise the parties as soon possible about any costs associated with having the support person.

Notice of temporary disruption

In the event of a planned or unexpected disruption to services or facilities for persons with disabilities, CNA will notify such persons promptly. For planned disruptions, CNA will post notices regarding the reason for the disruption, its anticipated length and a description of alternative services available, if any. The notices will be posted on the CNA website at www.cna-aiic.ca and at both entrances of CNA House, 50 Driveway, Ottawa, ON, or at the entrance of any offsite venue location.

Training of employees

CNA is committed to providing training to all of its employees, which includes:

  • overview of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, and the requirements of the customer service standard;
  • CNA’s plan related to the customer service standard;
  • ways to interact and communicate with persons with various types of disabilities;
  • ways to interact with persons with disabilities who use an assistive device (e.g., specialized software for those with mobility difficulties), or who require the assistance of a service animal or support person;
  • ways to use specialized equipment (e.g.,TTY device for those with hearing or speech difficulties); and
  • what to do if a person with a disability is having difficulty accessing CNA’s goods and services.

Employees will also be trained when changes are made to this policy.

CNA’s response to complaints or feedback will indicate that we have received your comment, when you will hear from us and whether further action or information is needed. CNA will ensure the appropriate person is advised.

Modifications to this or other policies

CNA strives to ensure that its policies, practices and procedures are consistent with the core principles of independence, dignity, integration and equal opportunity. Any CNA policy that does not respect and promote the dignity and independence of persons with disabilities will be modified or removed.
