A revelation about hospital food

May 2013   Comments

I am embarrassed that in 39 years as an RN, I had never given a second thought to the food served to patients (The Hospital Series, March). Even when I sat at my mother’s hospital bed and encouraged her to eat, and then listened to her complaints, I had no concept of how bad the food was. I was recently hospitalized for five days. Now, I can speak from experience, and I have to say that the food was truly disgusting. We should invite hospital administrators across this country to sit down to a meal supplied by the multinational companies. They’ll see how unappetizing the food is. Perhaps then some real change will occur.
