Panel on physician-assisted death
On March 30, as part of CNA’s board of directors meeting, we convened a panel to examine and explore the Supreme Court of Canada’s ruling on physician-assisted death. The panel featured Elaine Borg, a nurse legal advisor with the Canadian Nurses Protective Society; Globe and Mail health reporter André Picard; nurse ethicist Janet Storch; and Susan King, executive director of the Oregon Nurses Association. Oregon was the first American state to enact ‘dying with dignity’ legislation. While the full impact of the court’s decision remains to be seen, the panel is an important step in determining how best to support RNs on this matter.
